What is Virtual Therapy and Is It Right For Me?

Virtual therapy brings effective mental health support directly to you—no travel, no waiting rooms, just connection.

Research shows virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for children, teens, and adults. You get the same quality care with added flexibility that fits your life.

Online therapy means getting the support that you want from anywhere across Virginia.

Virtual therapy gives you:

  • Flexibility to meet from home, your office, or any private space

  • No commute time or traffic stress

  • Easy scheduling during your child's school day

  • Comfort of your own familiar environment

  • Privacy without waiting room anxiety

  • Access to specialized care regardless of location

You value the flexibility of being in your own space—whether that's meeting from home during a lunch break or having kids join sessions virtually from school.

For those who feel anxious about coming into an office or face barriers like childcare or transportation, virtual therapy removes those obstacles.

Why Virtual Therapy Works for Kids and Teens

Comfort and Convenience:

Therapy from the comfort of your own home—kids don't need to go anywhere, and there's no waiting room stress. This is especially helpful for kids who feel anxious about new environments or prefer familiar surroundings.

Familiar Environment:

Being in a familiar space helps children and teens feel more at ease, making it easier for them to open up. I get to see their world—favorite stuffed animals, artwork on the walls, even pets who wander in. These glimpses help me understand and support them better.

As a therapist, there's added value in meeting clients virtually—I have the honor of seeing special treasures, loved pets, and the dynamics of a family that can offer in-the-moment support.

Engaging Tools:

I use digital tools, games, and activities that make therapy fun and effective—no one-size-fits-all approach here! Through an interactive teletherapy platform designed specifically for play therapy, your child has access to the same collaborative and therapeutic tools, like sand tray, virtual dollhouse, art and games, you would find in a counseling play space.

How I Work with Kids and Teens in Virtual Sessions

Play Therapy:

Kids communicate through play, and I use this to help them express feelings, solve problems, and feel heard. This might include anything from sand trays (even virtual ones!) to digital art and storytelling. In virtual sessions, play therapy still happens—we just adapt the tools to work online.

Movement-Based Therapy:

Movement can help release energy and help children focus. Dance, stretching, and simple exercises may be used to help kids feel more grounded. I don't expect kids to stay in one spot—as long as they're engaged and safe, they can use their space however they need to.

Creative Expression:

Whether it's drawing, painting, or even showing me a favorite stuffed animal, I provide a safe space for your child to express themselves in their own way. Kids can share what they're creating on screen, and we make it interactive and fun.

Talking It Out:

For older kids and teens, I provide a non-judgmental space where they can talk through their thoughts, worries, or stressors. We work together to create practical solutions and coping strategies.
